"Goddess & Pet" personal work

Final Art close up

Hi again, I'm happy because I've finished this personal work which I started about 8 months ago. Most of the months I couldn't even open the file because of work, new home, new cat, etc. but this weekend I felt productive after finnishing the latest cover (previous post) and I decided to finish it.

I wanted to do a strong perspective piece and that was my personal challenge with this pic. You can see the process and the full final pic below.

I do not use to tell it but, since this pic is a personal work it is available for licence. If you want to include it in your publication ask me about price at charroar(at)gmail.com. Also you can ask me for any previous works, some of them are also available.

I hope you enjoyed visiting my cave ;)

"Face a Dragon" - step by step

*Spanish Below // Español abajo

Close ups

These last weeks I have been uploading the process of my last personal artwork. I had only two premises, the main character had to be a girl and I wanted to create an interesting/dynamic scene. As you see in the first video (Step 1) I tried several poses for her, looking for something enough cool for what I wanted.

Yeah, she looks fine for me, but she needed an enemy to look into his eyes defiantly. A Dragon seemed perfect to give the image a great epic ambience. Again a lot of testing, drawing and going back to build a good pose for our Dragon. Bad built poses can totally ruin a composition and the movement of the image. In my mind it´s like a dance where everything has to move right (Step 2).

A friend post at facebook that she need a couple of P90 weapons to have any chance. Thinking about it, I decided to turn the image from epic fantasy to cyberpunk or Shadowrun style (Steps 3 & 4).

At the end of Step 4 video I decided to start the colour painting. First five hours where also recorded but videos resulted corrupt files so, I decided to go on without them.

Full Process

Firstly I added a green/blue base colour with yellow light coming from somewhere behind the girl (Step 5). When I was happy with it, I merged the composition and I started painting with colours directly on the canvas. I usually find very uncomfortable working with a lot of layers, I like to paint in a very intuitive way and don´t worry about which layer is selected. However, for this pic I added many of them that I merged when I was completely sure that they worked well. I kept allways four basic levels (1.foreground, 2.girl and her base, 3.dragon and 4.background)

When I was close to the end (Step 10), I was unable to see the mistakes so I decided to ask the Fucking Canvas members for any suggestions to go on:

- Esther Sanz told me that it would be good to emphasize the distance between the characters and the background using colour and light and she did a quick overpainting sample for showing it.

- Diego Gisbert suggested to add more colours to the painting. About the background he said that the contrast is so similar to the characters.  Also he adviced about taking care with background saturation when I change the background colour and about wearing a jacket because it was cold xD.

- My girlfriend (not a FC member) told me that it needs more dust and ...FX

- Rafater added about step 11 that some warm reflected light coming from the fires on the girl´s legs would work well and help to separate them from the background. (Unfortunately his comment was late and pic was finnished but I found the suggestion interesting)

Of course, there were more responses from the other members but those were the most... serious suggestions ;D

With those last touches I felt that the work was finnished.

That´s all for now. Have fun, paint a lot, and try something different ;)
Or at least, drink a beer XD

Close ups

Pasadlo bien, pintad mucho y probad algo diferente ;)
O al menos, tomaros una birra XD

Lya, our main character

We have just the design for our main character Lya. From the sketch of the face we asked you to choose her profession among six options. In a close vote between killer and prostitute by one vote you decide that she is a prostitute. From there, the work was to complete the presentation drawing. I leave here some fragments of the process, remember that you can follow the adventures of Lya and decide her fate in flordejade.blogspot.com
